About

Welcome! My name is Shundra and I am so happy that you are here!

I am a wife, mommy to our one year old son, EJ, and a dog mommy to our American Bully, PeeWee. We currently reside in the metro Atlanta area, but we can be found in Huntsville, AL quite often.

I created this blog, which I named Brown Mommy Diary when I became overwhelmed with motherhood. Overwhelmed because this was all new to me and I really didn’t know where to begin. Thank God for my husband and support system. Through the trials of being a first time mommy and just trying to figure life out, I felt the need to share my experiences through blogging.

The purpose of Brown Mommy Diary is to be a valuable resource to all mommies, but especially first time mommies. BUT, it doesn’t stop there. Before motherhood, there were other things that I really enjoyed, and I still enjoy them. So don’t be alarmed when you see me talking about my favorite pair of jeans, my lovely indoor/outdoor plants, or how to organize a linen closet.

It is my hope that you find value in my blog and become apart of the Brown Mommy Diary community.

With love,

Welcome

Black Maternal Health matters today, tomorrow and Black Maternal Health matters today, tomorrow and every day after. We deserve to raise our babies too. Too many black mothers are dying PREVENTABLE deaths. We must advocate for ourselves and surround ourselves with others that will advocate for us as well. Black Queen, it’s okay to switch doctors, ask for a different nurse, and change your mind about that hospital. We deserve to be seen and heard. PERIOD🗣

EJ was born December 2019 and we entered into a pandemic March 2020. What this means is that my grandmother, whom I call Patty, has NEVER physically seen EJ.⁣
⁣
Part of the reason why I chose to get the vaccine was that I didn't want to miss another opportunity like this. I was heartbroken last year when my paternal grandmother transitioned. She never got the chance to see EJ. ⁣

We can't get time back, but it's what you do with the time that you have now that makes the difference. Family matters. And this past weekend definitely reminded me of why we cherish these moments.
It has been almost a year and half and we have yet It has been almost a year and half and we have yet to purchase diapers—blessings🙌🏾 Now that our diaper stash is low, we have to be more conscious of what’s available in the closet. Because who really wants to run to the store if you really don’t have to!? Since we shop at @samsclub bi-weekly, it just makes sense to purchase @pampersus, because it saves us time and money. With Pampers being the #1 Pediatrician-Recommended brand, we know that we are purchasing a superior fit, clean and protective diaper. Grab a box of Pampers diapers and wipes during your next Sam’s Club trip or on samsclub.com for delivery or convenient Club Pickup to ensure your baby has the best and that you never run out. #ClubPampers

Have you ever had unspeakable joy? Well it hit me Have you ever had unspeakable joy? Well it hit me this past weekend when I was with my family. I’ve really missed them. EJ playing with all 5 of his first cousins put the icing on top. One thing that the pandemic has taught me is that we should never take family for granted. I’ve always loved being around my family, but now more than ever I want to ALWAYS be near my family. Life can change in a matter of minutes. Better yet, a matter of seconds. So, do me a favor... call that friend/family member that you haven’t talked to in awhile. Forgive that friend/family member (for your sake). I’m cheering for you! ——

He is risen. While at my parents house yesterday, He is risen. While at my parents house yesterday, we were just reminiscing about how as a kids we would go to the front of the church and say our Easter speech. I can’t lie...I used to be nervous about saying my speech in front of the congregation. I know for a fact that EJ will be the kid to say his speech with boldness. I can just see it yall! EJ will get up there and say his speech and then drop the mic 🎤 😂 Happy Easter and Happy Resurrection!
